Lake District - What to do in cumbria

As with many small businesses, our online store is a lifeline. But, there is nothing quite as lovely as to meet and chat with our customers face to face in the shop. Many of you pop in to see us whilst on holiday in the lakes, which is always a treat.

If you are planning a trip to the area, either over Easter or in the future, here are just a few of my favourite things to do while you are in Cumbria.

Lowther Castle & Gardens.

Feeling energetic? There are wonderful walks here, including a loop to Ullswater and back. Lowther Castle commissions us to make Seasalt and honey fudge, using their very own honey. You can also hire a bike if you want to explore further afield. My grandson loves the adventure playground – and of course, watching all the dogs walking!

Basecamp.

A wonderful farm shop/ cafe/ restaurant between Penrith and Keswick. All the produce is locally made or sourced. This is a lovely spot if you’re heading to Keswick for the day, or perhaps dropping in for a tour of The Lakes Distillery. The distillery is a great experience with a very interesting tasting tour – and a lovely cafe and gift shop.

Rheged.

Although it hardly ever rains in the lakes 😉, in the event of precipitation we’d suggest heading for Rheged, a little village built in a hill. You’ll find fabulous shops, an art gallery and a wonderful cinema – as well as soft play for the little ones.

Ullswater Lake.

Finally, you can’t visit the Lake District without seeing the lakes! Our closest lake is Ullswater. There are fabulous walks from Pooley Bridge, Aira Force and Glenridding. Close by you’ll find the beautiful Dalemain stately home – hosts to the world-famous marmalade festival. (Exciting news on this next week!) We also make a delicious marmalade fudge for Dalemain using Jane’s marmalade.

Whatever you do whilst in our beautiful corner of the world, we hope you enjoy – and please do stop in and say hi, we’d love to say hello!

Love,
Kathryn, Team Toffee xxx
