At
lunchtime on Wednesday 12th March 2003, H.R.H. The Prince
of Wales arrived in Penrith to make a much awaited visit
to the Toffee Shop. On his arrival the Prince was greeted
by a group of children who had gathered outside their school
in Brunswick Road.

|
As
an existing customer of the Toffee Shop through his business
at Highgrove, the Prince was very keen to see the Fudge
and Toffee being made, showing a special interest in the
ingredients used.
Having
been shown round the kitchen, H.R.H was asked if he would
like to have a go at stirring the pans which he enthusiastically
accepted.

On
leaving the kitchen, H.R.H made his way into the packing
room, seeing how the toffee was broken into pieces and
wrapped individually by hand. He paid special attention
to an order for his shop at Highgrove that was being packed
on the day of his visit.

 |
Before
leaving the shop, the Prince was asked if he would unveil
a much larger version of the wooden spoon that he had used
earlier to stir the fudge pans - both to commemorate his
visit and also to re-open the shop after it had been refurbished

|
Mr
John Rudd who kindly makes the wooden spoons on a regular
basis for the Toffee Shop had specially made the spoon

On
Friday 28th March, the Toffee Shop received its second
royal visitor in the same month when H.R.H. Prince Andrew
called in while staying in the county. The Prince purchased
some fudge for Mothers' Day and added his name next to
that of his brother in the visitors book.
